National Civics Bee
About the Bee

The Utah Chamber is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to host a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes.
The competition, modeled on traditional spelling and geography bees, gives students the chance to win recognition and earn cash prizes by sharing ideas for improving their communities and showing their enthusiasm for civics. The winner of the National Civics Bee® Utah State Finals will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Civics Bee® national championship in 2026.
Utah students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade have until February 3, 2026 to submit their essay. This year there will be local competitions organized by Weber State University and the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce. Students will automatically be assigned to the local competition that is closest to the zip code entered on the application. The top five finalists from each local competition will then move on to the State Finals. Dates for the local competitions and state finals have not yet been determined.
